About Us

How did two sets of brothers from Charlotte, North Carolina, decide to start Sauna Culture? Well, first let us tell you what Sauna Culture is. “Sauna Culture” is the community and traditions around saunas all over the world. From ancient Greece and Rome to Finland and Korea, there are distinct Sauna Cultures going back tens of thousands of years. Sauna Culture’s goal is to synthesize these traditions and practices, making them accessible to Charlotte and beyond, and creating a community that prioritizes physical recovery and communal togetherness.

So, back to the question of who are the brothers behind Sauna Culture. The Zitsos brothers and the Norris brothers both grew up in Charlotte. Active athletes, the Zitsos brothers were wrestlers and the Norris brothers were competition runners, both prioritizing active recoveries. The Zitsos brothers, as wrestlers, spent much of their time in saunas but were introduced to cold water therapy as their athletic careers continued. As adults who remained active athletes, both sets of brothers began to rely more and more on recovery. While researching best practices for ice baths and saunas, they realized that there was limited availability in Charlotte. This is when the brothers began to develop Sauna Culture as a place and idea where a sense of social community is based around the idea of physical and mental recovery and well-being.
